This week Rich McCue came into our class to teach us about video editing and showed us how to use screencastify. This was a neat presentation as he showed us how to use screen recording, and then we were able to apply our new knowledge and try it out for ourselves. I think screencasting is a great tool, especially since you can edit it. For my biology class last year, my biology professor would often do these types of recordings to show us how to do certain parts of our lab work. I found these videos super helpful as you could hear her talk through the steps and visually see what she was doing.

This could be useful in a classroom setting as

  1. If the students are older, this can allow them more independence in their work.
  2. Common questions can be put in this screen recording, and then you can show the solution.
  3. It is helpful for people who aren’t the best at technology as it can give them step-by-step instructions, including visual and verbal cues.
  4. Great for when students are absent, such that they can keep up with the schoolwork and not fall behind.
  5. An excellent tool for parents as this can help them better understand what their child is doing in school. As well as parents can help problem solve any questions that may arise from their child.

Below for my screencasting, I did a tutorial of my blog!
